What are the top 15 food additives that are approved by the FDA and can be found in many of the food items in your local grocery store. We don’t just want our food to taste good these days: It also has to look good. As a result, food producers use any of 14,000 laboratory-made additives to make our food appear fresher, more attractive or last longer on the shelf. Since we want our food to look and taste good we have become very blind to the fact that the foods we are actually consuming could be causing the common illnesses. These illnesses are not a result of common aging but may have a some forward because of all the food additives we have consumed over our lifetime. It could take a person some time to actually work through the maze of ingredients that we actually cosume each day which could be causing our illnesses but to be able to shed some light on the subject for you by spending some time each week to research the top 15 food additives and will help you in your own quest to live healthier more fulfilling life.
The term Artificial Flavoring is so generalized you could would never know which one of the 3 thousand of laboratory chemicals designed to mimic natural flavors are actually used in the food you are generally buying. For example, some imitation vanilla flavors are made from petroleum or paper-mill waste. In fact, a single flavoring can be created from hundreds of individual chemicals. New studies are suggesting that artificial flavoring additives can cause changes in behavior.
There are additives added to foods that we to mimic a certain smell and more the taste of foods commonly purchased from grocery stores. Anything that we smell has to contain some sort of volatile chemical, either natural or laboratory created, most often laboratory created. Taste is a fairly crude sense — there are only four values that your tongue can sense (sweet, salty, sour, bitter) — while the nose can sense thousands of different odors. Therefore most artificial flavors have both taste and smell components.
There are hundreds of chemicals known to be flavoring agents. It’s interesting that they are normally mixed to create “known” tastes. People make artificial grape, cherry, orange, banana, apple, etc. flavors, but it is very rare to mix up something that no one has ever tasted before. But it can and does happen occasionally — take Juicy Fruit gum as an example!

They may sound and look delicious, but the hidden dangers found in most of the food we eat today, can out way the possibilities of it just tasting good. Don’t let those catchy names and the fancy packaging fool you. Don’t let them suck you in with the popular phrase “natural flavoring”.

As you can see these are just a few of the side effects that could arise from the common foods we find in our local grocery store. So what do you do when you get a headache? Commonly we would reach for aspirin or some Doctors subscribed drug if headaches are common in our daily lives. Not thinking or even knowing, more often, that it could just be the food we are eating that is causing the headaches. Instead we reach for the medication stacking more chemicals on top of the others.
So what can you do to avoid “Artificial Flavoring”? One way is to research and understand what you are putting into your body. This takes time but in the long run it will be worth the effort.
