Before I started P90X, I was a mess! I rarely exercised, never cared about the food I was putting into my body, and consumed a LOT of alcohol. I’ve worked in a bar for the past five years and after every shift I’d drink beer, scarf down junk, then crash for the night. I’d wake up hung over then lay around and watch TV all day until I went back to work. And even though I felt horrible every single day of my life, I was stuck in a rut.
Then one day I took a deep look at the person I’d become and wasn’t happy with myself in so many ways. My back always hurt, I never had any energy, and I hated looking in the mirror. Food and alcohol were my escape, and I was physically and mentally deteriorating. I knew I needed to change fast or things would only get worse.
I had seen commercials for P90X a thousand times but always thought it would be too hard for me—but honestly, I was just too lazy to do it. But now that I realized that I HAD to change, I knew I could do it. I looked through people’s BEFORE and AFTER pictures and told myself that that would be me one day. And it was.
P90X was amazing and I loved how it worked every single part of my body. The workouts were hard and I definitely didn’t keep up with Tony and everyone else at first, but I knew that I’d eventually get there. For the first few days, it didn’t matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t do the whole workout. And the parts I could do, I had to modify (especially in Plyo). But 180 days later, and I can complete every workout all the way through. I was never bored with the workouts because every day was different and it kept my mind fresh. I also liked the mix of comedy in the workouts; Tony kept me laughing time and time again.
As the months went on and I got stronger I started doing double workouts as well as mixing in COMBAT and P90X Plus. I can now go to the track and jog a couple of miles then run a few sets of bleachers without being too exhausted. Next up is Body Beast and I couldn’t be more excited.
But my greatest challenge I endured weren’t the workouts, it was giving up booze and learning to eat healthier. The first week was so incredibly tough, especially given the fact that I work in a bar. But I stayed strong and started carrying a water bottle (or two) everywhere I went and got into the habit of replacing alcohol with water. So far, I’ve been alcohol free for 181 days and I’ve never felt better, more proud, or more confident about myself.
Going into P90X I weighed 234 lbs. and I wore a 38 pant. Now weigh 164 lbs. and wear a 32. I’ve lost fat just about everywhere on my body and have toned up a lot. I wake up everyday thankful to be here, and for the first time in my life, I look forward to my future. I no longer have back pain and my overall health has drastically improved. I’m no longer on any medication and I think about working out and living healthier every single day. I’ve replaced a lot of negative thoughts with positive ones and am always looking to better myself.
Today I’m confident in the person I am and will continue to keep pushing that play button every single day of my life. I’ve finally learned to love myself and am determined to keep up this positive lifestyle change. There will be no going back to the old me! EVER!!! Thanks Beachbody, for helping me see the light.
